A keen tennis player, a trekker (Nepal), potter, animal collector (everywhere): horses, donkey, assorted dogs, cats, rabbits, exotic birds, tropical fish. Hey...there was even a hedgehog in Khartoum which burrowed under the rug in daytime and ran around the apartment at night.
Did we mention he also made his own booze in various countries? Back when everyone reused bottles, Bill once offered his Italian neighbor some horse's eye medicine instead of his homemade wine....by mistake of course.
There were a few things that Bill was a good sport at trying out but he didn't pick up as a regular activity. Snow skiing, for example.

Some things will always remain a mystery. While rummaging through Bill's memorabilia, I came across this gem from 1969 (Nigeria). It is some sort of contract for a horse doctor to sterilize Bill's dogs. The handwriting is definitely not Bill's. The spelling and content is....well....amazing. I almost wonder if it is some sort of joke. But then again, we did have a menagerie of animals that Bill would have had spayed. Anyone want to guess?
